FAQ
Unleash Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: You are calling this a “vision.” What’s that?
A: It answers the question, “Where does God want to take us in the next few years?” It’s what we believe God is calling us to do and be now!
Q: This sounds like you are stating the obvious. Shouldn’t this be a given?
A: Well, yes. But in the U.S. it has not typically been the case due to factors such as poor leadership, our American culture of consumerism and other distractions. But with our leadership, our staff, our facility, and our resources, there is no better time than right now to change that!
Q: How did this vision come to be?
A: During the year three different leadership groups at Calvary were asked to pray and brainstorm. They all came to a similar conclusion. We believe this to be God’s direction! After focus groups, meetings and numerous drafts, this is the result.
Q: How does this vision relate to our work of “connecting people with God”?
A: That’s our mission, which does not change and will always be our purpose. This vision, however, is a special focus that becomes our way of achieving that mission. It gives us a clear picture of what God is calling us to look like.
Q: Is this just another church program, perhaps a fad?
A: If it’s a fad, then it’s a really old fad! It’s been on the heart of God for thousands of years. For Calvary this will be at the core of everything we do, not just another sign-up. We actually plan to stop doing some things so we can chase after this vision!
Q: Isn’t this going to be a lot of hard work? Won’t it cost a lot and be messy?
A: Yes. (You wimpin’ out?) We don’t have a choice!
Q: How do we get prepared, experienced, and continually energized for being involved with a broken world?
A: A rotating schedule of classes will be offered. We will participate in a couple of regular all-church initiatives which will help us get some on-the-job training. Weekends and small groups will continue to provide encouragement to those who have spent all week “being the Church.” By the way, if we wait until we are prayed up, practiced up, and confident to pursue this vision, we’ll never start!
Q: Is this something we are doing as a church or as individuals?
A: Yes. (Both.)
Q: How do our small groups participate?
A: Creatively, as God directs them.
Q: What’s the ultimate goal of a vision like this?
A: To bring some of heaven to earth. To demonstrate the goodness of God to our world. To enjoy obeying the Father. To see people “connected with God.” To benefit the Church (not just Calvary).
Q: Is the list of needs exhaustive?
A: No way.
Q: I have a specific way Calvary can be involved in pulling this off. In fact, I am already involved personally. What can I expect from the church?
A: We are presently receiving at least one good idea every day! As a church we will focus on only a couple of initiatives, otherwise we will become very broad and shallow and lose direction. We will certainly encourage you as much as we can!
Q: Is this emphasis just for a season?
A: No. We long for this to become part of the DNA of Calvary Church–what we are known for from now on.
Q: What are you asking from me?
A: Throw your life into it! Own it! Work for it! Sacrifice and give for it! Protect it!
Q: How will we know we have accomplished this vision?
A: It will never be accomplished while we are on this earth. That’s the reason God leaves us here. But individually we’ll need to hold each other accountable to stay involved with those around us. You will see the vision statement being lived out – you’ll experience it!
Q: How can I get started right away?
A: Read the scripture passages. Ask for God’s direction. Jesus celebrated those who simply saw a need and did something about it (Luke 10:25-37). Maybe you need to latch on to someone who is doing it already.
