Who is the greatest person in the Bible? Jesus answered that question when he said, “I tell you the truth, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John the Baptist.” (Matthew 11:1)

John was a great man in many ways. Everything about him demanded attention: his dress, his message, his boldness, his lifestyle. Yet the true measure of his greatness lay in his humility.

When John met Jesus, things changed. He pulled back and declared, “He must increase, and I must decrease.” (John 3:30) In that statement lays the meaning of true greatness in the kingdom. If you’re not pointing people to Jesus, then YOU are standing in the way!

Through Kids Against Hunger, we will be packaging life-saving meals to be distributed to the people of Haiti! Here’s how it works:

Teams of 12 people will form an assembly line to efficiently package dried ingredients into bags that can be shipped to Haiti.

First teams will being at 11:00 AM on Sunday, March 7. Teams will start on the hour each hour after that through 4:00 pm.

Each team will package about 2,000 meals in their hour of work. The cost of the meals is $500, which comes to about $42 recommended gift per team member.

This effort will be funded through individual gifts. If you cannot participate on March 7, you may still give to the effort by placing a check (made out to Calvary Church) in the regular service offering. Please note “KAH” in your check memo line.

Not all teams will be able to raise the $500 cost as a team. That is understood. We encourage everyone to give as they can, sacrificially. There are many who will not be able to participate on a team, but they can participate financially!

Read the Complete FAQ Sheet

To sign up, please stop by the booth in the Commons or email Nathan Belzer at nathan@calvaryonline.org. You may make a monetary donation to this effort through our regular Calvary offering. Simply write “KAH” in the memo line of your check and deposit in the basket!

But sometimes such faith comes up short. And NOW is the best time to discover that!

So we enter into a private conversation between Jesus and a credible Jewish leader. Nicodemus’ faith is not enough. Jesus explains what he really needs. And it’s the same for us!

It’s a great illustration of “righteous indignation.” Jesus was angry with the condition of the temple. He let it show and it made an impact. Artists throughout church history have attempted to depict the scene.

“Go get ‘em, Jesus!” is our typical response. Those businesses of exploitation and extortion deserved to be trashed!

Then we dig deeper. We discover the real story is about us. And it is related to our answers to a couple of simple questions: “Why did you come to church today?” and “What did you bring?”

Ouch!
