The name Lamb of God, which John the Baptizer gave to Jesus, had never been used before but it was full of meaning. Over the years hundreds of thousands of lambs had been sacrificed on the altars of the tabernacle and temple.
But it was all to end brutally, dramatically, simply and ultimately with the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. To take away the sins of the world. Our sins.
And Jesus asked us never to forget. Never–until he comes back to earth. We do communion to remember the Lamb of God.
